Differentiation in Higher Education: Balancing Differences in Programming Tools

Differentiation in higher education requires more than just offering alternative tools; it requires a structured approach to ensure that all students, regardless of prior knowledge or background, can achieve the intended learning outcomes. In this paper, we describe an approach to align assignments across different programming tools, such as Python and Orange, in an introductory AI course. This process is based on a detailed analysis of both technical and pedagogical dimensions. By systematically mapping tool functionalities to course goals and addressing the conceptual gaps introduced by each tool, educators can create inclusive learning environments that support learners effectively.
