This chapter broadens the perspective on gender equality beyond the core indicators of female educational attainment and female labor force participation. Data from the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) plays a central role. The point of the chapter is to show that the main conclusion reached in previous chapters of the book—that corruption matters for gender equality in people's everyday lives—holds across different societal domains, such as care activities in the home, but also regarding the access to economic resources. This chapter includes a discussion of domestic violence in the EU, which is one of the core aspects of gender equality as self-determination, but for which good data are much more difficult to obtain than for educational attainment and labor force participation. The chapter begins with a review of previous feminist research on the EU, including critical perspectives on the EU's ambitions in this area.

摘要
