VDI/VDE 2653: A Standardized, Holistic Framework on Multi-agent Systems in Industrial Automation
摘要
The increasing ubiquity of Artificial Intelligence has reignited interest in agent and multi-agent systems as key technology towards general artificial intelligence. Despite decades of research and applications, the industrial adoption of agent systems remains limited. The availability of standards is one lever to foster the industrial adoption of cutting-edge research and technology. Standards represent a common understanding among a group of experts about the state of the art and best practices and can facilitate implementation and foster interoperability. This paper investigates existing standards on industrial agents and identifies a single standard series that provides a comprehensive, holistic approach to multi-agent systems for industrial automation systems. This standard framework is described in more detail in this paper, providing an overview of the five interconnected parts, addressing fundamentals, development, implementation patterns, quality indicators, and applications. The paper concludes by summarizing key aspects and providing an outlook on the next steps towards international full-consensus standardization.
