An overview is given of the importance of disability in employment settings in terms of legislation in the United Kingdom. Disability studies and different models and theories of disability are introduced to contextualise the basis of rights-based legislation. The chapter briefly explains and defines the medical model, the social model and the human rights model of disability. Then the chapter outlines critical disability studies and explains disablism and ableism.
