Samtökin ’78’s Early Years: Public Pedagogy in Praxis
摘要
This chapter explores key forms of gay and lesbian activism led by Samtökin ’78 during the 1980s and 1990s in Iceland. It focuses on three interconnected areas: linguistic activism, LGBTQ+ publications, and Pride events. The language used to describe queer identities shaped both public discourse and the politics of visibility, reinforcing the celebratory and political aspects of Pride. These activist strategies laid the foundation for today’s widespread acceptance and participation. The chapter concludes with a reflection on the growing importance of Pride celebrations in Iceland, exemplified by the record-breaking Reykjavík Pride parade in 2024 and nationwide festivities.
