Exploring the Vendor Lock-In Phenomenon in SME ERP Cloud Ecosystems: Risks, Impacts, and Mitigation Strategies
摘要
The concept of digital ecosystems emerged as a fantastic opportunity to innovate in infrastructure for SMEs and entrepreneurs by creating new business models and pushing innovations regarding their products and procedures through platforms in the cloud that may simplify and make it easier to research information, store it, and use it in a digital economy. However, when it is necessary to abandon a cloud solution, there will be a huge vendor dependence. Supplier dependency could be a risk to SME companies because the data is stored in cloud database environments, where the migration process could be difficult if data is lost. The objective is to research data privacy in cloud digital ecosystems, mitigate the risk of vendor lock-in, achieve full compromise of access to SME’s organisational data, and comply with the contingency of the business in case of an eventual need for cloud environment change.
