Concept of distance function which is very common and popular transformation in the field of topology has been also considered and discussed. It has been found in the research papers done so far by various scientists that they used the concept of distance function applied on the pixel intensity of the binary image. Then it is used in conjunction with the watershed transformation. The present study has carried out various types of preprocessing on colored image, mainly in RGB format. The concept of canny edge detector has been applied on the color image after converting the same to a binary one. The idea of distance transform is then applied on edge map of the original image and this is followed by aforesaid watershed transformation. This set of proceedings has been found to give improved in segmented image. The result confirms that the proposed algorithm is found to yield satisfactory and efficient segmentation of the digital images for edge detection.

摘要
