This chapter seeks to answer the question in its title. After trying to ascertain what intelligence is, it introduces the Aristotelian notion of human intelligence and its process, before analysing if AI can follow this process, only to conclude that AI’s process differs in its very essence from Aristotle’s intelligence concept. Abstraction and abduction are exclusively human activities, and human intelligence grows in the whole context of human beings, with their sensorial, emotional, moral, spiritual, social, and environmental components. To call AI ‘intelligent’ is an anthropomorphising misrepresentation.

摘要

This chapter seeks to answer the question in its title. After trying to ascertain what intelligence is, it introduces the Aristotelian notion of human intelligence and its process, before analysing if AI can follow this process, only to conclude that AI’s process differs in its very essence from Aristotle’s intelligence concept. Abstraction and abduction are exclusively human activities, and human intelligence grows in the whole context of human beings, with their sensorial, emotional, moral, spiritual, social, and environmental components. To call AI ‘intelligent’ is an anthropomorphising misrepresentation.
