The evolution of technology has provided opportunities for out-of-class interaction in L2 English contexts, where exposure to English is restricted. L2 learners can interact with artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve expected objectives and goals. Also, AI-mediated platforms have been developed to facilitate learners’ intercultural communication. Considering the potential of human-AI interaction, this chapter argues that AI-mediated platforms can be used to improve intercultural communication and willingness to communicate. The chapter first reviews the literature on AI and then discusses its potential to improve L2 learners’ intercultural communication and willingness to communicate. Regarding the current shortcomings and ongoing evolution of AI, we finally argue that AI will develop further to assist L2 in interaction, especially with those from other cultures.
