Applied behavior analysis is an intervention and support strategy that has been utilized to address problematic behaviors in individuals living with serious mental illness. Applied behavior analysis is rooted in behavioral science and provides a systematic, evidence-based approach for understanding why maladaptive behaviors occur and how they can be replaced with more constructive and adaptive actions. Applied behavior analysis addresses diverse behavioral concerns by performing functional behavior assessments and creating detailed, tailored support plans. This approach encompasses issues such as aggression, psychotic symptoms, and difficulties in daily living. The approach prioritizes changes in the environment before the behavior happens, manages consequences after the behavior, and promotes development of new skills through targeted behavioral training. Applied behavior analysis is collaborative and person-centered, incorporating input from stakeholders, adjusting environmental factors, and using reinforcement to improve quality of life and support recovery for people living with SMI (serious mental illness).

摘要
