The likelihood of war spreading beyond Ukrainian borders is real, but not inevitable. In order to deter Russia—the only military threat to Europe—European leaders should ensure that their countries are not only prepared to accept this new reality, but are also ready to face the challenge both technically and mentally. In view of the current situation facing the country, the threat perception assessment according to the traffic light system positions it squarely in the ‘red’ zone.
