Life Skills in Home Economics
摘要
The study programmes of Home Economics in teacher education stand out as a holistic approach to education, encompassing a wide array of life skills. Not only do they provide knowledge about nutrition, health, household management and consumption, textile techniques and material culture, but they also lay the foundations for educating responsible citizens. In this paper, we will explore the importance and differences of teaching life skills within Home Economics as a study subject in teacher education at the University of Namibia and the University of Education Freiburg in Germany. This study focuses on the skills that prospective teachers should acquire as part of their professionalisation and not on the competencies that schools are aiming for in young people. In this way, this study can provide a general overview of higher education in Home Economics in these two countries. Nevertheless, it is essential to note that study programmes differ from university to university and change over time.
