Current Updates and Future Innovations in Resident Recruitment
摘要
Recruitment of general surgery residents has changed over the past several years, with many innovations occurring only in the past five years (2019–2024). Some of these changes were planned and anticipated, while others were born out of necessity. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many major adjustments to how interviews are conducted, technology changes have led to enhanced application review, and the ever-changing applicant pool has helped inform what information is and is not included within the application itself. Additional changes include new platforms for residency application and scheduling, as well as enhanced tools for assisting with holistic review. This chapter is meant to serve as an overall review of past and recent changes that have impacted the recruitment of general surgery residents. We will also explore the potential for future innovations, such as artificial intelligence models and the use of social media.
