There has been growing research supporting the association between female-specific risk factors, including adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Mechanisms underlying the association of APOs with the development of future cardiovascular disease are not well understood but are likely multifactorial, including shared biologic, social, and epidemiological risk factors as well as vascular dysfunction and cardiometabolic syndrome (abdominal obesity, elevated glucose, low HDL, high triglycerides, and elevated blood pressure). In this chapter, we review the association between five established APOs and subsequent CVD as well as knowledge gaps, disparities, and interventions to mitigate the risk of CVD attributable to APOs.

摘要
