Managers will try to distort reality to make you meet their unrealistic goals. In multidisciplinary engineering design, goals cannot be defined in isolation at the lowest levels of the hierarchy of the system under design. They must all align with the system life cycle and the architecture. There is a tedious, large bibliography body written about goal setting, always with a new way to skin the same old cat. Besides the usual babble, goals must always be tied to (undistorted) reality, to the underlying work breakdown, and more fundamentally, adaptive with respect to the evolving context.
