Women’s entrepreneurship faces numerous social, cultural, and institutional barriers to its development. No research to date has examined the overall performance of women entrepreneurs in a sui generis manner. This study seeks to understand the configurations of global performance among women entrepreneurs. Our results reveal that perceptions of global performance are contingent upon individual characteristics, entrepreneurial and biographical trajectories. Both internal (personal) and external (contextual) factors determine entrepreneurial performance. Situational factors also influence overall performance. Finally, our findings show that, in both France and Tunisia, the reality of women entrepreneurs’ global performance is closely linked to, and even constrained by, institutional and cultural systems.

摘要
