This chapter extends the concepts on ideal reactors, first analysing some configurations of interest (parallel and series reactors), highlighting the design equations and the optimisation procedures of the proposed reactor schemes. Furthermore, the role of mixing is explored in depth, underlining when it is convenient to anticipate or postpone mixing in a series composed of reactors with different nature. The chapter ends with the detailed analysis of the PFR with recycle, which will be shown to be a reactor that encompasses both the PFR and the CSTR case: the design equation is obtained, and the case study of autocatalytic reactions is presented, for which it is possible to identify a condition for the optimisation of the recycle ratio.

摘要
