The steel industry’s value chain is being transformed through innovative digitalization aimed at achieving sustainability, decarbonization, and operational excellence (Clean Steel Partnership 2021). Central to this transformation is the development of dynamic Digital Product Passports (DPP), which offer comprehensive, continuously updated repositories of product data across a product’s lifecycle. This research presents preparatory work for developing a dynamic DPP for the steel industry, examining enabling technologies, regulatory context, and implementation challenges. The dynamic DPPs will aggregate real-time data on material properties, production processes, and sustainability metrics, enabling seamless information exchange among steelmakers, end-users, and other stakeholders through an industrial dataspace. Live traceability methods embedded within DPPs will enhance transparency and resource optimization within the steel supply chain, aligning with the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) (European Commission 2024).

摘要
