Visualisation of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) results is crucial in communicating sustainability preferences to various stakeholders and policymakers. Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) offer a more intuitive means to interpret the life cycle sustainability performance of products and projects and constitute an invaluable approach to engaging users with no prior scientific knowledge. User studies are vital in appraising and assessing technological interventions to improve usability, engagement and functionality of novel tools. Currently, there have been limited user studies that have been deployed in developing the vast array of tools used in life cycle sustainability reporting. This paper undertakes comprehensive user studies of the LCSA Tracker—a novel AR tool used in visualising life cycle sustainability outcomes. The user studies comprise questionnaire surveys with different user groups (students and professionals). It was found that the LCSA Tracker performs well in usability, engagement and interactiveness. However, the user studies identified opportunities for development with regard to data format, compatibility with existing platforms and data availability. Future work will seek to enhance user experience by addressing the issues identified through the user studies and will seek to build a community of practice for the LCSA Tracker.

摘要
