This study explores the effects of global competitive dynamics across different geographical and political-economic contexts. We conducted a principal component analysis (PCA) using the average jurisdiction scores of 46,227 academics from 20 jurisdictions who participated in the Academic Profession in the Knowledge-based Society (APIKS) study. According to our model, 54% of the variance between jurisdictions is explained by three dimensions: Research performance culture, Academic stratification, and Managerialism. Along those dimensions, some jurisdictions appear to cluster according to their continental region, which underscores the necessity of considering contextual variations when evaluating the impact of global competitive dynamics in higher education.
