Evaluation of the Performance of Coaches in the Iraqi Gymnastics Federation from the Perspective of Athletes and Experts
摘要
This paper aims to assess gymnastics coaches affiliated with the Iraqi Gymnastics Federation based on data obtained from both athletes and sports experts in order to create a systematic and objective coach assessment framework. Understanding that coaches are an integral part of athlete development, increased performance, and team success, the goal of this research is to expand beyond subjective assessments of coaches in a way that accommodates quantitative measures and evidence through statistical means. Data on 241 athletes and 99 experts affiliated with the Iraqi Gymnastics Federation, data were collected through a descriptive-survey research design. In order to measure multiple facets of coaching effectiveness, a 57-item validated questionnaire assessing reliability was employed. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was carried out, including the use of the Independent Sample T-Test content assessment to compare scores from the athletes’ and experts’ perspectives, and the Friedman Ranking Test (a machine learning technique) to rank coaching performance in the five areas. These dimensions included technical and pedagogical skills, which assessed a coach’s ability to impart knowledge and develop athletes; behavioral and educational factors that measure a coach’s role in providing psychological support and motivation; team maintenance and promotion, which evaluated how effectively coaches nurture cohesion and long-term development; coaching experience and background, which focused on professional qualifications and training history; and team and individual management, which analyzed the balance between individual athlete needs and overall team performance. The results showed that all gymnastics coaches in Iraq evaluated to a high level of overall mean score (greater than 4.20) on a scale of 5. Technical and pedagogical skills were found to be the most important factors among them, which are crucial for the effectiveness of such coaching methods. Both athletes and experts gave similar scores for these categories; however, experts gave greater weight to team and individual management ability and athletes emphasized direct technical coaching. These nuances shed light on the discrepancy in expectations and views during the coaching evaluation process.
