One of the key cognitive skills that significantly affect the individual and group performance of futsal players, specifically during competitive match situations, is decision making. The current study is a comparative analytical study for decision-making skills of the males and females’ players of the Iraqi national futsal team for the season (2023–2024). Specifically, this study aimed to determine the possible impact of gender on futsal decision-making skills, as well as to investigate cognitive differences between male and female players. The researchers used a non-experimental (descriptive) research design with a total of 32 futsal players (16 males and 16 females). They used scores from standard decision-making performance tests that measured the player’s ability to recognize patterns in a game, predicting opponent movement, and making tactical decisions under pressure. Performances were statistically analyzed based on the collected data and compared for the results of male and female players. The results showed a significant difference between male and female players, where the male players got higher decision-making scores on average. Results indicate that male participants made more consistent and accurate rapid tactical decisions, possibly due to their differences in training exposure, cognitive processing speed, and high-intensity match environments. In contrast, females showed more variation in the specific measures of decision-making performance, suggesting areas for potential cognitive training intervention. These findings add to the existing literature on cognitive function in sports, suggesting that gender-based decision-making training programs should be considered. An important study for the coaches, sports analysts and researchers, to optimize the cognitive training methodologies of futsal players. These findings should be extended in future endeavors, including psychological characteristics, previous experience, and real-time situational awareness to maximize the understanding of decision-making performance in futsal and other team sports.

The current study is a comparative analytical study for decision-making skills of the males and females’ players of the Iraqi national futsal team for the season (2023–2024).
