This study aimed to assess the effect of a combination of massage therapy and infrared light therapy on ankle ROM and pain in beginner Kyokushinkai Karate athletes suffering from ankle sprains. A pre-test/post-test experimental design was employed to evaluate the effect of the interventional program, as participants were provided with a six-week rehabilitation program that included flexibility exercises, advanced massage techniques, and infrared therapy sessions. Ankle ROM was calculated with a goniometer while pain intensity was measured with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). As the main outcome variables, there were significant improvements in the ROM scores with a significant improvement in pain, following the intervention. Study findings validated that massage combined with infrared therapy is an effective rehabilitation technique for the ankle injuries of martial arts athletes that increases mobility and decreases risk of reinjury. Further tests on larger sample sizes to determine the long-term outcomes of the program on athlete performance and more widely explore the addition of novel technologies for sports rehabilitation are indicated in the study..
