Prostitution and Mental Health
摘要
Askabide is a nonprofit, independent association that has been working since 1985 for the inclusion of people engaged in prostitution in the Basque Country, as well as women who are facing social exclusion. The objective is to improve the mental health of women in prostitution. It ensures access to individual and group psychological support services, where individuals can share experiences and emotional management strategies in a safe and nonjudgmental space. Askabide works from a person-centered intervention approach. Many of its achievements have to do with the “bond” we establish with them. These women are highly vulnerable, and it is very difficult for them to establish healthy bonds and create safe and welcoming environments where women feel comfortable sharing their experiences. Empowerment promotes self-esteem, self-confidence, and coping skills in these women.
