Right to Health is an inherent part of dignified life of every citizen of India. The Public Health-Care systems forming part of Public asset management need to meet the expectations of the clients. The dismal picture of lack of hearing aid uptake is a public health concern, world-wide and India is no exception. The cost of hearing aids is ridden with huge margins. The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysore a public funded institution embarked on a Hearing Aid Dispensing Scheme, to facilitate clients procure hearing aids at subsidized cost. The Objectives of this study included (1) To present an overview of the beneficiaries of the Hearing Aid Dispensing Scheme at AIISH for the period 2018–19 to 2023–24 and to analyze in terms of demographics, hearing aid type and type of hearing loss. (2) To analyze the beneficiaries in terms of the economic slabs and the quantum of subsidy extended by the Hearing Aid Dispensing Scheme during the same period. The data spanning six years comprised of 13082 beneficiaries. Age-wise, the geriatric population were the largest beneficiaries followed by Children, then by Adults. Gender-wise, male beneficiaries were greater than female beneficiaries. The beneficiaries spanned across 20 States, 3 Union Territories of India and two of the SAARC Countries. There was a steep decline in the purchase of Body Level Hearing aids which became nil in 2023–24. The Behind the Ear (BTE) hearing aids and the Receiver-in the Canal (RIC) hearing aids remained the most preferred. In terms of quantum and percentage of beneficiaries, the lowest income group were the largest beneficiaries of the subsidy. The results of the analysis and findings of the study can provide deep insights and give valuable inputs to health care planning, quality service delivery aspects, policy making at governmental level, besides, hearing aid manufacturers.
