Bringing Healthcare into the Community: A Barbershop Story
摘要
Crystal Zhou’s own experience in dealing with the deaths of family members and the care she learned to practice for self and others influenced her desire to go into healthcare. She shares her experience working in barbershops in the Black community in her chapter. As a pharmacist in a novel environment treating hypertension, she describes how her experiences growing up have contributed to her career and how she shaped her care for her patients. Many of the people she sees in the barbershop already have health insurance, but do not utilize their health insurance enough, and therefore, fall out of care. She focuses on one patient who worked at a healthcare facility himself but still wasn’t getting the care he needed. She provides examples of the types of communication she practiced.
