The Gift of Our Stories
摘要
Physician Roxanne Almas wrote her story soon after her mother passed away. Accompanying her mother during the challenges of cancer treatments, through hospice, and towards the end of life was one of the hardest yet most rewarding life experiences. Even in her death, Almas felt her mother kept giving. From the experience of encountering and befriending death, Almas began to live more deeply and more fully. She allowed for mystery to take shape in her personal and professional spheres. This experience was a reckoning with her own humanity, and she was committed to restoring it in medicine. Bringing her own humanity into the exam room has helped bring a sense of fulfillment at work.
