Process science is a highly interdisciplinary field of research. Despite numerous proposals, there is still an inadequate understanding of the core concepts of the field, such as ‘process’, ‘event’, and ‘system’. A more systematic framework is mandatory in order to cope with process science. We present such a framework by means of an example. This framework addresses three aspects: architecture, statics, and dynamics. The corresponding formal concepts, which are based on established scientific theories, provide an integrated framework for understanding processes in the world. We argue that our approach has positive implications for both theoretical and empirical research, as hypothesized relationships can be explicitly tested. Time has come to initiate a discussion on the foundations of our field.

摘要
