Somatic Witness: Embodying Resistance and the Criteria for Martyrdom
摘要
Chapter four turns to the existential (or lived) experience of the struggle for liberation. The chapter argues that embodying resistance models liberation. It also shows that the physical bodies of the freedom fighters reflect and contain the meaning of resistance, emphasizing the Christian practice of martyrdom. Sharpe, for example, enshrines his body with his beliefs, values, physical sufferings, and willingness to pay the ultimate price for liberation and for his faith. Above all, this chapter concludes that enshrinement is a confluence of beliefs and practices that display and demonstrate resistance against oppression, and bears witness to God’s purpose of liberation. Embodiment transcends specific limitations and completes resistance in totality.
