Rainfall Variability and Its Consequences
摘要
This chapter examines long-term rainfall variability and changes in the Himalayan region. A continuous rainfall dataset spanning 161 years was obtained from the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology. Statistical methods were applied to analyze temporal trends and variability patterns in rainfall. The results reveal significant inter-annual and decadal variability across the region. Noticeable changes in rainfall intensity and distribution were observed over the study period. These variations indicate increasing climatic uncertainty in the Himalayan region. Such changes have important implications for water resources, agriculture, and natural hazards. The findings contribute to a better understanding of long-term climatic variability in the Himalaya and support future climate adaptation planning.
