As a promising additive manufacturing method, directed energy deposition has been widely used to manufacture high-quality parts with complex structures. However, there are always some defects in this process, such as spatter. In this paper, the spatter phenomenon in the process of directional energy deposition was observed by a high-speed camera, and a numerical model was established with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method.
