Fostering Reflective Learning Through Visual Search Stories
摘要
Self-reflection and self-regulatory skills are central in Information Literacy and online search education. However, it is difficult to capture navigation behaviors to make the online search process visible in class. The Reflective Online Search Education (ROSE) project developed a platform that captures online searches and makes them visually available (a) for students as interactive Search Timelines, along with descriptive statistics and adaptive hints, and (b) for teachers as Class Maps. This paper describes the design process and presents the usability and user experience studies conducted with teachers and students. Results so far confirm that search process visualisations are useful teaching and learning instruments, and that the ROSE platform provides a usable and effective online learning tool.
