This chapter analyses the historical contribution of the Durban Conference to the pursuit of recognition, justice, and development for Afro-descendants. The Durban Declaration and Programme of Action is the foundational framework for Afro-descendants as a collective subject of international law in its broadest sense. The Durban perspective of the issues of Afro-descendants transcends the realms of racism and racial discrimination, and is confirmed by legal, institutional, and instrumental developments that followed the Durban Conference at the national, regional and international levels. The pillars that shape the current agenda of Afro-descendants in a global context marked by escalating racism and xenophobia, gravitate towards a third generation of Afro-descendant rights, characterized by reparative justice, climate and environmental justice, as well as digital justice and artificial intelligence. The shared history, shared experiences, and shared aspirations are rebuilding the bridge between Africans and Afro-descendants worldwide.

摘要
