Contested Meanings, Returnee Knowledge, Local Realities and the Politics of Epistemic Silence
摘要
How do we contextualise the return of African migrants, and how do their imaginations shape these journeys? This chapter looks at both successful and unsuccessful reintegration into countries of origin. It also explores the tension between returnees and locals about the value of knowledge gained abroad versus traditional practices. It describes how meanings are accepted, challenged, or learned during the complex process of re-acculturation (Sachs, 2010; Wong, 2014). This process unfolds amid major political changes and the search for sustainable interaction in the migrants’ home countries. The analysis draws on interviews with former foreign residents, frequent movers, and locals who try to balance life in both settings. Observational findings complement the interview data.
