Conclusion: Making Space for Enduring Narratives
摘要
Migration is a complex phenomenon, requiring proper and continuous contextualization of its nuances (Fiorio et al., 2021). Its character varies from one location to another, between people and histories, and amongst geographies. Far beyond the statistics, popular headlines, and perceptions are deep-seated details, in quietened histories (Nowicka & Ryan, 2015), shared realities, and the dynamics of identity construction and reconstruction. Within the African framework, specifically, this work attempts to delve deeper into the fine lines of African migration from the perspectives of the migrants, their concerns, practices, and patterns, as well as governance issues from the points of view of states, governments, and global organisations. It examined how these thin lines, sometimes marginal to the point of infiniteness, play roles in the successes and failures of migrants, before, during, and after. The details, including what they say, how they say them, where they say them, and the reason they say those things, in addition to hitherto dismissible details of lifestyles in pre, during, and post-migration periods, are brought to the fore. These hitherto overlooked aspects of the migrancy experience may not matter much for statistics or the more dominant discourse of economic, political, and conflict issues (Zapata-Barrero & Yalaz, 2022), but are inherently significant in shaping migrant psychologies, which invariably rub off on common physical narratives.
