With artificial intelligence being increasingly used in educational settings, artificial intelligence literacy has become an integral component of all educational levels for all education stakeholders. Therefore, this chapter aims to provide an overview of the use of artificial intelligence in preschool education and primary education. Based on the results, artificial intelligence constitutes a valuable and meaningful educational toolEducation Tools that can support both teachers and students. Due to the ability of artificial intelligence tools to function as both tutors and peer learners, delivering personalized, collaborative, and adaptive learning experiences while offering individualized feedback, support, guidance, and recommendations, improved learning outcomes and performance were observed. Although students and pre-service teachers expressed mostly positive attitudes toward the use of artificial intelligence in education, teachers expressed mixed opinions which were mostly related to their characteristics, including gender, age, background, digital literacy, and prior experiences. Since the integration of artificial intelligence in education is likely to increase the digital divide, the need to ensure that its implementation is inclusive, accessible, responsible, ethical, and equitable is highlighted. Other key challenges identified included concerns about ethical issues, privacy, security, misinformation, bias, and lack of infrastructure and of teachers’ artificial intelligence literacy. The chapter also points out the need to further examine the impact of artificial intelligence on teachers’ practices and on young students’ development, well-being, and learning and to also consider its societal, technological, and economical implications. Finally, the importance of developing young students’ artificial intelligence literacy, reasoning, critical thinking, and computational thinking is highlighted.
