Drafting
摘要
This chapter addresses perhaps the most difficult stage of the writing process, drafting, by arguing that it should be understood as a single, relatively minor part of a broader writing process, versus a one-shot attempt at perfection. Acknowledging common barriers to drafting like writing anxiety and uncertain process, the chapter introduces exercises like AI-assisted drafting, macro-to-micro structural strategies, and speech-based dictation to help undergraduate writers produce early draft material with greater confidence and speed. In terms of organization, it splits drafting work into three levels: macrostructure (whole-document organization), mesostructure (paragraphs), and microstructure (sentences). Each level is supported by prompts and examples that center on an English major undertaking a literary analysis of the novel Americanah.
