Considerations on the Communications System for Passengers’ Safety in Railway Stations and Railway Vehicles
摘要
The paper provides an integrated perspective on how a modern communications system, based on heterogenous data transmission technologies, can be designed and implemented, capable of supporting the complex requirements of the railway domain. The main objective of this work was the development of a communications system aimed at enhancing the safety of travelers, both at train stations and on board the railway vehicle. The work presents a detailed description of the system architecture, highlighting the essential role of the communications infrastructure in achieving this objective. The proposed system enables real-time transmission of data, voice conversations, and video streams between the Central Station, Local Stations, and the railway vehicle, thereby contributing to effective monitoring and control of safety in operation. At the same time, the specific bus topology of the studied section Coșlariu–Cluj Napoca, located within the CFR Cluj Regional Area, was analyzed, presenting a mixed transmission infrastructure that combines several modern technologies to guarantee a high level of reliability and reduced response times. These include IP/MPLS networks, Wi-Fi connections, 5G technology, GSM-R and fiber optic networks.
