E-learning refers broadly to the use of technology for learning. Its development can be traced back to distance learning methodologies which were established long before the advent of digital technology. E-learning takes several forms, including immersive learning, video learning, MOOCs, and others. It can be synchronous, as in video conferences, or asynchronous, as in discussion forums or learning platforms. E-learning has several benefits, including flexibility and accessibility for learners. It also has weaknesses among which the need for reliable equipment and the possible lack of motivation. A high-quality platform can greatly improve the learning experience, while a low-quality platform can hinder learning and lead to frustration. The use of e-learning has undergone a significant transformation following COVID-19, with increased adoption in education and vocational training. During this pandemic in Morocco, studies showed limited accessibility in elementary pupils and lack of interactivity in high school students. In higher education, the quality of teaching has been compromised by unequal access to technology and difficulties in adapting to distance learning as well as insufficient teacher preparation, both in terms of mastery of digital tools and access to the necessary equipment. Despite the efforts made by the Moroccan education system since COVID-19, student engagement remained limited. This has led the department to generalise online learning platforms and to impose distance learning of the digital skills courses in all Moroccan universities.
