This chapter traces some of the origins of wearing masks in cultural manifestations such as Greek theater and Chinese culture, before turning to both Korean and Japanese culture. I then proceed with later epochs such as the Dark Ages, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, before continuing with the modern era around 1900 onwards.
