Masks in Traditional and Contemporary Korean and Japanese Music
摘要
This chapter examines the functions and meanings of masks in Korean theater and music (e.g., talnoli), as well as more recent phenomena such as the television show King of Mask singer which includes K-pop artists. Moreover, it examines some manifestations of Japanese rock, J-rock. The analysis suggests that in K-pop and J-rock it is the functions rather than the meanings that are of importance.
