Teaching the Science of Learning in Science Education

This chapter aims to apply insights in teaching the science of learning in science education with a broad perspective of science education. We will use a framework of five key principles (spaced practice, interleaving, retrieval practice, elaboration and dual coding), along with former research on their effectiveness in classrooms and suggestions for pedagogical implementation in science education. The chapter will include the theoretical background, examples and discussion of the key principles. We will discuss both advantages and limitations of implementation of these principles. Finally, further reading on the topic of teaching of learning in science education and some exercises will be outlined.
