Decarbonisation of the transport sector is one of the most daunting tasks in the process of achieving climate neutrality in the world. Although battery electric vehicles (EVs) have become a major solution to passenger transport, electrification of heavy-duty freight has been a major challenge because of the limitations of battery size, weight, cost, and charging duration. A technologically viable way to overcome these obstacles, at least in the case of long-haul trucking, is provided by Electric Road Systems (ERS)—infrastructure that allows vehicles to dynamically receive power as they travel.
