Proverbs on Biodiversity Protection in Environmental Education: Azerbaijani, English, and Russian Perspectives
摘要
Environmental education is one of the key priorities of the twenty-first century. This form of education regulates people’s attitude toward nature, develops a sense of social responsibility, provides the essential cultural and psychological foundation for ensuring sustainable development. Proverbs are a powerful tool in ecological education that combines language, culture and ethics. Through them, people learn to value nature not only as a source of resources but as an essential value for life. Proverbs selected for the protection of biodiversity are among the rare tools that combine personal responsibility, ethical perspective, and local knowledge systems in ecological education. Therefore, they are not only of cultural value, but also serve as an effective and practical means of ecological teaching. Proverbs preserve knowledge about biodiversity within an ethical and moral framework, as part of collective memory. Through proverbs, people are guided toward behaviors such as valuing species, avoiding harm to the environment, and protecting genetic and ecological diversity. Folklore presents nature not merely as a resource, but as a sacred entity and a source of life.
