A Review of Cyber-Physical Systems in Driving: Assisting Older People
摘要
Driving is essential for the mobility and independence of older people. However, aging is usually associated with various types of cognitive decline, as well as physical and mental complications. European senior drivers have the second highest mortality rate in road traffic accidents compared to other age groups. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the physical/cognitive problems of senior drivers that increase their vulnerability and to find efficient ways to deal with them. In this review, we first provide evidence for increased seniors’ driving risks. We then compare the cognitive and physical abilities of older and younger drivers. In the next section, mobility-related driving problems are discussed. Existing solutions are summarized, and systems for hazard detection and driver assistance are reviewed. The final sections examine the progress towards partially/fully autonomous vehicles and their potential utilities and risks.
