Bridging the Cybersecurity Gender Disparity Gap in Botswana
摘要
The cybersecurity field is experiencing rapid growth, yet the representation of women within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines is notably low. In 2022, the global cybersecurity workforce was estimated at 4.7 million, reflecting an increase of 11.1% from the previous year. However, the gender gap in the cybersecurity workforce widened by 26.2% over the same period. Across the globe, women are significantly underrepresented in the cybersecurity sector, making up only 25% of the workforce. The study adopted the PRISMA approach as part of a scoping literature review process to identify barriers contributing to gender disparity in cybersecurity. Based on the findings, the “Bridging Cybersecurity Gender Gap (BCGG) conceptual framework” was developed by integrating theoretical perspectives from the literature underpinned by the Moser Gender Mainstreaming framework and included strategic measures to enhance women’s participation in the cybersecurity workforce. The study makes a significant contribution towards addressing the gender disparity gap.
