Investigation of a Provable Data Possession Method for the Virtual Machine File System
摘要
In recent decades, virtualization technologies and cloud computing have had a significant impact on the organization’s IT infrastructure. However, many challenges remain in terms of security compliance. The most security challenges are related to a growing and uncontrolled number of Virtual Machines (VMs), the VM isolation issues between each, and the vulnerabilities due to various guest operating systems in the VM and software. This study highlights the problem of ensuring the integrity of data storage in Cloud computing. The Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) model was created for a customer (organization) who is concerned with the security of its data when there is insufficient information about the security of the IT infrastructure provided by the third-party vendors. The proposed VMFS security model is based on a provable data possession (PDP) method, which ensures data integrity and provides certainty that the data is in the third-party server. Furthermore, the investigation of VMFS model performance characteristics such as hash value (stamp) generation time, protecting time of the VMFS, blocks dividing time, and corrupted file detection probability is presented.
