MaaS Propensity among University Populations: A Case Study on Milan
摘要
Mobility as a Service represents a paradigm shift in urban transportation, offering integrated, multimodal mobility solutions aimed at promoting sustainability, well-being, and accessibility. Understood as the seamless integration of different modes of transportation, it plays a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility while reducing environmental impact, limiting people’s effort in moving and enhancing, as a result, their motility. In this context, the study explores the propensity towards MaaS among a sample of university populations in Milan, including students, lecturers, and technical-administrative staff. A survey was conducted in 2023/2024 (in the framework of the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, tertiary education institution in Milan. Key areas of investigation included the Multimodality, Attitude towards use, Technophilia, Intention to use, Perceived ease of use, and Perceived usefulness indexes [1–4], providing valuable insights into the drivers and barriers to MaaS acceptance. To empirically capture the multifaceted construct of users’ inclination towards Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), a composite metric—hereafter referred to as the Propensity Towards MaaS Services Index—was constructed through the aggregation of these six theoretically grounded sub-indices. Through this analysis, the research aims to identify patterns and trends that can inform the development of tailored strategies to promote MaaS adoption and engagement as a leverage for improving multimodality in a commuting intensive community such as the university one.
