The South Asian Shame Model
摘要
This chapter introduces the South Asian Shame Model, a culturally grounded framework that maps the psychological and behavioural manifestations of shame in South Asian contexts. The model is structured around three interrelated complexes: the over-humanised complex, including behaviours of perfectionism, religious perfectionism, and hypocrisy; the dehumanised complex, including addiction, hypersexuality, and self-harm; and the humanised complex, encompassing wholeness, self-awareness, and hyposexuality. The chapter illustrates key behavioural indicators associated with each complex. This chapter integrates theoretical insights with culturally specific phenomena to provide a nuanced understanding of how shame operates within South Asian populations, offering a framework for both clinical assessment and socio-cultural interpretation.
