A panoramic view of the history of Portuguese neuroradiology in the last 30 years is offered, highlighting in first place its historical roots, both in the 1920s/1930s of the twentieth century, and mainly its beginning as a Hospital Medical Specialty in the 1970s/1980s and showing how from an initial nucleus of three hospitals and a handful of visionary leaders it was possible to reach today a network of more than a dozen Hospitals distributed throughout the country, with a work based on three pillars (medical assistance, teaching, and research), developed by more than 250 Neuroradiologists.
